Phonological Awareness refers to the ability to hear different parts of spoken language. These skills are prerequisites for reading skills, and include being able to separate words into separate syllables and sounds, and being able to verbally identify the beginning sounds in words and rhyming words.

- ABC I Spy: While on long car trips (or short ones) play I Spy with your child. Begin with the letter A, and say, "I Spy something that starts with a." Have your child guess what you see. Repeat with the letters your child knows.
